Screening is always a choice, deciding whether or not to have a screening test is a personal choice and one which only you can make. When you are invited for screening you will receive an information leaflet about the screening test. You can discuss any aspect of the screening test with your health professional and decide if it is right for you

Female Patients
Screening in Pregnancy
Pregnant people are offered screening for
Infectious diseases (Hepatitis B, HIV and syphilis)
Downs Syndrome, Patau’s syndrome and Edward’s Syndrome
Sickle Cell and thalassaemia
Development Scan to check the physical development of your baby.
Patients with a cervix
Cervical Screening (Smear Test) From Age 25 – 49 every 3 Years. Every 5 years between the ages of 50 -64
Breast Screening
Breast screening first  invitation from age 50-53
Every 3 years  up to 71st birthday

Male Patients
Abdominal Aneurysm Screening  
During the year (March – April) you turn Age 65
Over 65? You can self-refer
This is a scan which looks for a bulge or swelling in the main blood vessel that runs from your heart to your tummy.

New Born Babies
A physical check at 6 weeks to check eyes, heart, hips and testes
Hearing test
Blood spot test

All Patients with Diabetes from Age 12
Diabetic Retinopathy from Age 12 once every 2 years eye screening, different to your optician checks
Bowel Cancer Screening Home test kit
Age 60 – 75 (This is being lowered over the next few years)
 over 75 you can request a kit every 2 years
